About T Mag

T Mag was started in April 1995. Since then, it has established itself as an invaluable source of information and comment for anyone involved in learning and skills. T Mag was re-launched in February 2006 with a new, sharper look and more focused content, and continues to reflect the key themes and topics in learning and skills.

In June 2006 T Mag launched Document Digest - a separate publication where we read, summarise and review new learning and skills publications.  Document Digest is published 10 times a year.  For more information see the Document Digest page on this website.

Independence and the inside track

T Mag's publisher, Simon Shaw says:

"T Mag's strengths are independent analysis and informed commentary on developments in the sector, including government policy. We're always readable – and sometimes irreverent – but we make serious points about the management and delivery of learning and training programmes.
"How would it be to sit round a table every month with people who know how things work and talk to them about what's going on? A subscription to T Mag is a bit like that. It has the best people writing in it every month, and they've always got interesting things to say."

Authoritative content

Every issue of T Mag includes articles written by authoritative players in the sector. In the last few issues we have had contributions from Professor Simon Roodhouse, Jean Kelly, head of professional development at the Institute for Learning, Caroline Mager at the Centre for Excellence in Leadership, ex-BAE Systems CEO John Weston, now chairman of UfI, sports psychologist Graham Jones on what it takes to become a high performance organisation and Derek Longhurst, chief executive of Foundation Degree Forward.

We talk regularly to leading figures in the sector, who provide illuminating and sometimes personal accounts of the challenges and problems they face. Recent interviewees include LSN chief executive John Stone, Sir Roy Gardner, Chairman of the Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network and David Sherlock, ex-ALI chief inspector.
